Thief poses as civic volunteer, robs former councilor's home in Howrah
A high-speed SUV crash on National Highway-31 near Khatopur Chowk in Bihar’s Begusarai district left four people dead and five others seriously injured early Sunday morning. The accident occurred while the vehicle was returning from a wedding procession, with police citing a tyre burst and possible driver fatigue as causes.
The deceased have been identified as 19-year-old Ankit Kumar and his brother Abhishek Kumar, sons of Manoj Kumar Sinha, along with 19-year-old Saurabh Kumar, son of Rudal Paswan, and 18-year-old Krishna Kumar, son of Jagdish Pandit. The injured were immediately taken to Sadar Hospital in Begusarai for treatment. Their current condition remains critical.
According to reports, the wedding procession had traveled from Paharpur village in the Mufassil police station area to New Jafar Nagar in Sahebpur Kamal. The accident happened on the return journey when the SUV, moving at high speed, lost control, broke the divider, and overturned. Eyewitnesses reported that the vehicle was severely damaged, and local residents assisted in the rescue operation before authorities arrived.
Sadar DSP Subodh Kumar confirmed the details, stating, “It appears the SUV lost balance due to a punctured tyre. The vehicle was speeding, and fatigue could have also played a role.” One of the injured passengers informed police that the group had left the wedding at 2 AM, and the driver was feeling drowsy at the time of the crash.
Local police have launched an investigation into the accident. The highway was briefly obstructed due to the wreckage, but normal traffic resumed after the vehicle was removed. Authorities have urged drivers to remain cautious while traveling at night, especially on high-speed highways.
